Moderato à cent d'huîtres was composed during the summer of 2014 for Sylvain Durantel. It will be released in 2016 on a CD called "La Cuisine à l'alto", the gastronomical-musical theme being an original idea by Sylvain Durantel. It will include new pieces by sixteen composers for viola, piano and reciter.
"moderato à cent d'huîtres", the title of the piece, is a word play in French on huit (eight) and huître (oyster), so it's the tempo of the piece ( = 108) as well as being a hundred oysters. I discovered after that Balzac was reputed to have gone to a restaurant after finishing a work to indulge in a hundred oysters. There's also a triple pun with cent and sang (blood) which are pronounced the same. From Balzac's novel La Duchesse de Langeais (la Comédie Humaine) (text chosen by François Castang);
