Ancien chef de cuisine et ingénieur agro, Stéphan Lagorce, né en 1962, a entamé ses études musicales au violoncelle avec Dimitry Markévitch (frère d’Igor Markevitch) au conservatoire Rachmaninov de Paris.

Au terme de 3 années « d’apprentissage », Stephan Lagorce partit travailler à New York comme chef de cuisine. Sur place, il étudia avec Avron Coleman, violoncelliste au New York Philharmonique et ami de Dimitry Markévitch. Après 2 années passées à New York, Stéphan Lagorce partit en République Populaire de Chine en 1984 comme chef de cuisine du Maxim’s de Paris et y résida 3 années. Sur place, il travailla avec Mr Zhong Bo, professeur au conservatoire central de Pékin et élève lui-même de professeurs russes. C’est à ce moment qu’il commença la musique de chambre avec des amis chinois en jouant lors de concert privés organisés, à l’époque, par l’ambassade de France.

De retour en France, Stephan Lagorce poursuivit sa carrière dans le secteur de l’agro alimentaire en tant que développeur de nouveaux produits. Musicalement ; il continua son activité de violoncelliste dans différents groupes et en participant à de nombreux stages de musique de chambre ou d’instrument. Aujourd’hui, Stephan Lagorce concilie ses activités musicales avec celles d’auteur et traducteur de nombreux articles et ouvrages sur la cuisine, les arts de la table et la nutrition.

A former cook, Stéphan Lagorce began studying the cello first with Dimitry Markévitch (brother of Igor Markévitch) at the Rachmaninov Conservatory of Paris.

At the end of three years of apprenticeship, Stéphan Lagorce quit Paris to go and work in New York as a cook. While there, he studied with Avron Coleman, a cellist in the New York Philharmonic and friend of Dimitry Markévitch. After spending two years in New York Stéphan Lagorce left in 1984 to go and live in the People's Republic of China as a cook for Maxim's of Paris. During his three years living there, he studied with Mr Zhong Bo, a teacher at the Central Conservatory of Peking, himself having learnt from Russian teachers. At this time he started playing chamber music with Chinese friends, notably for private concerts organised by the French Embassy.

On returning to France, Stéphan Lagorce pursued his career in the food industry as a developper of new products. Musically he continued his activity as a cellist in different groups and also participated in a number of training courses in both cello and chamber music held by Russian musicians in France. Today, Stéphan Lagorce shares his time between his musical activities and those of author and translator of articles and works on cooking, culinary arts and nutrtion.
